The Gate of Heaven Parish and the Archdiocese of Boston undertook a major, multi-year planning and restoration project to adapt the church campus to the needs of the parish and restore the church.  Ryan Associates designed a new multi-use parking lot on the site of a demolished convent and memorial gardens alongside the church featuring sculptures commissioned by the church and architectural elements reclaimed from the convent building.  This renewal of the grounds was part of a larger planning effort anticipating the eventual sale and re-use of Parish School for residential use. Ryan Associates assisted the Archdiocese balance the potential of the site to serve the needs of the parish and realize the value of the school conversion.
