UMass Memorial Medical Center Healing Garden

Ryan Associates is working with UMass Memorial Medical Center and the University of Massachusetts Medical School to design and construct a centrally located healing garden.

Following an initial conceptual phase in which three options were presented, the “Cloud Scheme” was selected for further exploration. This scheme proposes above-grade planters with small trees, shrubs, and perennials. The intent is to promote a connection with nature and provide respite for patients, families, and caregivers. The curvilinear nature of the design creates a multitude of seating areas offering varying degrees of privacy.

Physical models made of wood, acrylic, wire, and foam were created to assist with the ongoing fundraising effort. This project is currently in development.
